| Futuris caught up in Ford manufacturing withdrawal - ABC News |
Elders says it is assessing how its operations will be affected in the longer term by Ford's decision to end manufacturing in Australia from late 2016. Elders owns parts maker Futuris Automotive and says it does not expect there to be any profit implications for the current financial year to September 30 or revenue implications before October 2016, when Ford plans to end production at Broadmeadows and Geelong in Victoria. Elders says Ford Australia sales account for about 25 per cent of global sales for Futuris. Holden, which makes vehicles at Elizabeth in northern Adelaide, has made clear its commitment to continued car production in Australia, despite Ford's announcement. |
| Violent rapist seeks sentence mercy - ABC News |
A court has been urged to give a violent rapist a lower-than-usual non-parole term. The South Australian Supreme Court was told the Adelaide man broke into women's houses about two decades ago and violently raped them. Phillip Gordon Lindsay, 52, bound, gagged and raped five women at knifepoint during break-ins the early 1990s. His defence argued drugs and binge drinking affected Lindsay at the time of the crimes. The court heard Lindsay was now horrified to know of the crimes but had no recollection of them. |
